Cranberry Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 4 cups -Cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ¼ cup -Water
  • 8 cups -Sliced, peeled cooking apples (ie. Fireside, Sweet Sixteen, Haralson)
  • 2 cups -Sugar
  • Optional: pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice

 

Directions

  1. In a large pot, simmer cranberries & water for 20-25 minutes, or until cranberries burst.
  2. Add apples, cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes until desired texture is achieved. The longer you cook the apples, the more smooth the texture.
  3. Add sugar and optional spices, simmer 5 more minutes.
  4. Pour into heat-proof bowls and let cool to room temperature, then chill in refrigerator. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
