Food Safety Manager

We are seeking a leader to carry out food safety initiatives. The Food Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing food safety systems designed to ensure adherence to specifications, food safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of products and procedures.

This position is responsible for the food safety, and will manage FSMA compliance, and work towards becoming Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) certified within an agreed upon timeframe.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develops, maintains, and manages company’s food safety, quality assurance programs, and policies.
  • Develops and maintains up to date Food Safety procedures and programs.
  • Documents the Food Safety procedures and programs in the form of a company Food Safety manual.
  • Assures compliance to FSMA, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Maintains current library and well-organized record keeping for all FSMA, GAPs, SOPs, and SSOPs.
  • Provides training and audit for QA programs including FSMA, GAPs, food safety, and sanitation.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and adhere to corporate policies and practices while representing the Company in an ethical and professional manner in all interactions with employees, customers, suppliers, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Acts as Liaison for regulatory agencies including, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and third-party auditors.
  • Routine monitoring program effectiveness and objectives to meet company and government expectations.
  • Develop and maintain a product packaging inventory system.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Minnesota agricultural production, FSMA, and GAPs.
  • Prefer bilingual in English/Spanish, not required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables or situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions.
  • Ability to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to perform the primary functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Capacity to learn and absorb new duties with minimal repetition or re-training.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required.
  • Experience within the agriculture sector, food industry, or project management fields.
